Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the largest Northern California airport conveniently located for South Lake Tahoe destinations. In just two hours, you can reach the world-renowned slopes of Heavenly or Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resorts or the crisp, clean waters of Lake Tahoe on a warm summer day.

Getting to South Lake Tahoe is half the fun, with some fabulous farm and wine regions along the route. Taking State Route 50 toward Placerville, you may continue to the south on historic Highway 49 to top-rated historic wine regions in Amador County and Calaveras County. Should you continue east on State Route 50, you’ll reach the wine region of El Dorado County and one of the oldest agricultural tourist destinations in Northern California, Apple Hill. Open year-round for farmers market treasures like fresh-pressed apple cider and homemade goodies, Apple Hill is roughly an hour away from South Lake Tahoe in good weather.

Sacramento International Airport has many planned amenity improvements in 2019, including new retailers and lounges in both terminals. New retailers include an art gallery featuring local artists, Chocolate Fish Coffee, Jaynee Cakes, clothiers No Boundaries and Popsox, and a flavored-water bar called The Well.

By July 2019, Sacramento International Airport will offer 175 daily nonstop flights on 14 domestic and international carriers to more than 40 nonstop destinations. In 2018, Sacramento International saw year-over-year passenger growth of more than 10% and served a record 12 million passengers.
