Flying over a hill on an ATV, I had an epiphany: this family vacation might just be our best ever.

My best girlfriends and I decided to take a long summer weekend to recharge and have some fun.

Destination: Bardstown. It’s Kentucky’s second-oldest city—settled in 1780—a cozy, quaint town with well-preserved homes, churches, and businesses that pay homage to its storied past.

Our friend’s wedding was in Bardstown, Kentucky—gateway to the famed Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

What we found was a city teeming with fun bars, outdoor markets, and up-and-coming restaurants serving perfectly in-season local produce —a true foodie paradise.
